1910: First Presbyterian Church, 525 N. Lawrence (now Broadway). Designed by Ohio-based architects Badgley and Nicklas, this impressive stone building includes many design cues based on the numbers three (representing the Trinity) and eight (representing the survivors of the biblical deluge). Note the eight support columns in the photo above left; inside, much of the woodwork features three-pointed carvings. The Rev. Andrew Melrose Brodie delivered the sanctuary's first sermon on April 7, 1912.
