1919:
Victory Arch, Douglas & Lawrence (now Broadway). Designed
by local architect Don Schuler to celebrate the end of World
War I, this massive arch spanned Douglas where the avenue
intersected Lawrence. 105,000 people came to the dedication
parade on May 8, 1919. The arch stood for roughly one year
before local businessmen presented a petition to the city
to have it removed, citing it as a traffic obstruction.
