1929: Watkins Aircraft, 2300 E. Douglas. Literally dozens of aircraft-related businesses opened in Wichita in the 1920s, and the bulk of them closed in the wake of the stock market crash of 1929. Watkins Aircraft was founded in that year, and closed its doors only one year later. (A staggering list of such failed Wichita-based companies can be found here.) The building now houses Douglas Photographic Imaging (DPI), formerly known as Douglas Black & White.
