La
Vonne Widmer's 1965
Ford Motor Company shut down the Wixom assembly plant for the 1964 model year on August 3, 1964 and began production of 1965 models, which were introduced to the public on September 22. This '65 convertible was assembled September 8, 1964, making it a very early '65; the serial number shows this Thunderbird to be only the 6,016th Ford product built in the 1965 model year. Destined for the Milwaukee zone, this car left the assembly line with Charcoal Gray acrylic enamel paint (color code S) and black interior (code 16). In addition to standard equipment (including 390-cid V8, power steering, power brakes and automatic transmission), this unit was also equipped with optional power windows, AM/FM radio and air conditioning. Time passed. Eventually the original 390 was replaced with a Ford 428-cid engine and the car was rejuvenated with dark blue metallic paint, blue interior and a white top. Today this beautiful T-Bird is owned and maintained by club member La Vonne Widmer of Wichita.
